These Boots are made for Walking

So random topic today. I recently bought some new waterproof hiking boots in preparation for a backpacking holiday at the end of the year. Being as prepared as I could possibly be, I wanted to get my boots sooner rather than later in order to break them in. Went off on a shopping adventure a couple of weeks ago, and ended up at an outdoorsy type shop and tried on a few different pairs. I decided on a pair on men’s Columbia hiking boots. They felt comfy and having had women’s ones squish my little toes in the past I knew these would be the go.

All was going well with my new boots until I keep having the laces come undone! They have those round laces that look nice, but do have a tendency to slip. This was not going to do at all!

I wondered whether the way I learned to tie my shoelaces, back in grade prep, was in fact the right way to do it! Well, the answer was no! I spent some tie researching online, and discovered that I have been tying my shoelaces in a granny knot for the past 30-plus years.

Turns out I only needed to make one small adjustment to my shoe-tying technique to convert my inferior granny knot to the superior and secure reef knot.

If this has you questioning your shoelace tying abilities, visit this website so you can troubleshoot like I did!
